MISSION COMPLETE: New Lights Finally Installed at Wildwood Baseball Park

February 6, 2019

“It was a landfill. Who knows what they will find down there.”

“It is a flood plain …. far too soft and too wet.”

“It is way too expensive; they’ll never get it done.”

New lights for Wildwood Baseball Park is the subject of the conversation above.

Lesson No. 1 – Never tell the Sheboygan Athletic Club something can’t be done.

The new lights are FINALLY up and functioning at Wildwood Baseball Park

With Eric Wiesman doing much of the early research, Peter Geise, who has since moved out of the area, Tom Willis and Scott Stangel, pushed, pulled and planned the project and with the full cooperation and eventual project leadership by the City of Sheboygan and the expertise of Musco Lighting and Altmeyer Electric, Mary Testwuide Knauf Field at Wildwood Baseball Park now has state of the art athletic field lights.

The project isn’t finished as site clean-up and grounds repair remain on the to-do list, but when the Appleton Legends show up to play the Sheboygan A’s on Wednesday, June 5, the new lights will shine on the first A’s night home game of 2019.

Ready are six poles, four of them 90 feet high, and two of them 75 feet high. Eighty-two LED fixtures will hang from those pools sending precisely directed brightness onto the field.

The A’s fundraising came up more than $100,000 short of the total cost of the project estimated at more than $450,000 when all the bills come in, and the A’s are still accepting donations to the lighting project. Contributions can be sent to Sheboygan Athletic Club, PO Box 32, Sheboygan, WI 53082-0032. The A’s are a 501©(3) non-profit corporation that is also recognized as a charitable organization by the State of Wisconsin. Online donations are also accepted up to $1,000 through our online store: https://squareup.com/market/sheboygan-athletic-club
